As a writer of science fiction, making the lives of my characters in a future world feel authentic is important. Part of that is inventing new traditions and customs, something that humans are constantly doing. But my individual creativity is no match for the inspired and inspiring creativity of the military services. I just came across this one, and it's brilliant.
